More than 1,000 residents in Olongapo City were displaced Saturday as relentless monsoon rains sparked widespread flooding across the metropolitan area. According to data from the Olongapo City Information Center, 1,395 individuals from 452 families sought refuge in evacuation centers by 9:30 a.m., with authorities directing residents to safer, elevated locations throughout the city.
The evacuation underscores the vulnerability of the coastal Zambales city to seasonal weather patterns that regularly bring heavy precipitation to the region. Floodwaters affected multiple residential areas, prompting disaster response personnel to establish temporary shelters and coordinate relief operations for displaced families.
