Governor Greg Gianforte of Montana, accompanied by First Lady Susan Gianforte and a state delegation, arrived in Sri Lanka on Tuesday to pursue closer economic and security partnerships. The visit aims to unlock new opportunities for American agricultural exports to Sri Lankan markets while advancing bilateral defence cooperation through Montana's State Partnership Program with the Sri Lankan military.

Montana, one of the United States' leading agricultural producers, seeks to leverage the visit to establish stronger trade relationships and introduce Sri Lankan partners to the state's farming expertise and produce. Officials said the delegation plans to engage with government counterparts, business leaders, and agricultural stakeholders to identify mutually beneficial commercial opportunities.

The security component of the visit focuses on the Montana National Guard's State Partnership Program, a U.S. Department of Defense initiative designed to foster military relationships and professional exchanges between American states and foreign nations. The program facilitates training, capacity-building, and institutional knowledge-sharing between military forces.

The delegation's itinerary includes meetings with Sri Lankan government officials and representatives from the agricultural and defence sectors. The visit reflects broader U.S. efforts to deepen engagement with strategic partners in South Asia through state-level initiatives.
