Xa Phin hamlet, situated in Thanh Thuy commune at the base of the Tay Con Linh mountain range, remains a repository of traditional Dao stilt-house architecture characteristic of the region's ethnic minority communities. The settlement's most distinctive feature is its collection of dwellings topped with palm-leaf roofs that have accumulated thick layers of green moss over time, creating a striking visual harmony with the verdant mountainous terrain that surrounds the hamlet.

The moss-covered roofing is not merely an aesthetic phenomenon but a natural consequence of the area's climate and geography. Xa Phin's location in the humid, mountainous environment of northeastern Tuyen Quang province creates ideal conditions for moss growth, transforming the traditional structures into living examples of vernacular architecture adapted to local ecological conditions.

The Dao people have inhabited these mountainous regions for generations, developing architectural styles specifically suited to the challenging terrain and climate. The stilt-house design serves practical purposes including protection from flooding and moisture, while the palm-leaf roofing remains an economical and sustainable building material sourced from local vegetation.

As Vietnam increasingly recognizes the cultural and historical significance of its ethnic minority communities, hamlets like Xa Phin draw growing attention from researchers and cultural heritage advocates seeking to document and preserve traditional building practices before they disappear entirely. The settlement represents a living link to the region's pre-modern architectural traditions.
