Most Indian Banks Open On Anant Chaturthi; Gangtok Observes Holiday

Indian banks will maintain regular operations on September 25 despite the observance of Anant Chaturthi, the fourth day of the Krishna lunar fortnight celebrated predominantly in western India. The festival, marked by the worship of Lord Ganesha and symbolic thread-tying rituals, will not trigger nationwide bank closures.

However, banking services in Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim, will remain suspended on the day due to the concurrent Indrajatra Festival, a significant cultural celebration in the region. Customers in Gangtok are advised to plan their banking requirements accordingly.

The distinction in holiday observance underscores India's approach to accommodating regional and religious festivals within the national banking calendar. While Anant Chaturthi holds cultural significance in states like Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Karnataka, it is not recognized as a national bank holiday. Financial institutions across these states will continue normal operations, enabling customers to conduct routine transactions.
