Most Indians Damage Air Purifiers by Cleaning Filters Incorrectly

Air purifier owners across India are inadvertently ruining their expensive appliances through incorrect filter maintenance practices, with an estimated 99 percent of users applying wrong cleaning methods, according to maintenance guidelines.

The HEPA filter forms the core component of most air purification systems, and its proper maintenance is critical to device longevity and performance. Despite its importance, many users mistakenly wash or wet-clean these filters, a practice that causes irreversible damage and renders the equipment non-functional.

Once a HEPA filter is washed, the electrostatic charge that enables it to trap microscopic particles becomes compromised. This degradation cannot be reversed, effectively turning a costly investment into waste. Manufacturers typically recommend against any water-based cleaning methods for these specialized filters.

Proper HEPA filter maintenance involves gentle vacuuming with a soft brush attachment or tapping the filter to dislodge accumulated dust particles. For filters that have reached the end of their operational life, replacement rather than restoration is the recommended course of action. Users should consult their device manual for specific cleaning protocols and replacement schedules to maximize their air purifier's effectiveness and lifespan.
