Mother-led fraud gang dupes family of ₹1 crore in black magic scam

Police in Bhopal have arrested three practitioners of occultism in connection with an elaborate fraud scheme that targeted a local family with promises of supernatural intervention. The accused, led by a woman, allegedly convinced family members to part with substantial sums of money, gold, and other valuables by claiming they could use black magic to bring the family's son under their control.

Investigations revealed that the fraudsters systematically extracted approximately ₹1 crore from the family over an extended period. In addition to cash, the accused reportedly absconded with 625 grams of gold, causing significant financial distress to the victims.

The case highlights the persistent problem of fraud schemes exploiting vulnerable populations through superstition and false promises of supernatural remedies. Police said the investigation uncovered the gang's modus operandi, which involved multiple visits to the family's home and elaborate rituals designed to build credibility and extract funds.

The three accused have been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Authorities are investigating whether the gang has targeted other families using similar tactics.
