MotoGP champion Martin curtails Sepang practice to manage wrist injury

Jorge Martin, the reigning MotoGP world champion, cut short his participation in opening practice at the Sepang International Circuit on Friday as he continues to recover from a wrist fracture. The Spanish rider completed just 12 laps during the session, prioritizing his injury rehabilitation over extensive track running.

Despite the abbreviated outing, Martin demonstrated his competitive edge by posting a time within two seconds of the session's fastest lap. Marc Márquez, his championship rival, set the pace during the opening practice session at the Malaysian venue.

Martin's cautious approach reflects the team's strategy to manage his injury carefully ahead of the weekend's racing action. The decision to limit track time is aimed at preserving his fitness for qualifying and race day when full performance will be required.

The limited running marks a departure from typical practice protocols, where drivers usually maximise seat time to familiarise themselves with track conditions and test various setup configurations. Martin's ability to remain within striking distance of the pace despite the constraint suggests he retains sufficient physical capability for competitive racing at the weekend.
