Mourinho rejects Barcelona comparisons, cites time difference at Real Madrid
Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has pushed back against direct comparisons with Barcelona, pointing to the disparity in time each coach has spent building their respective squads. Mourinho argued that his tenure at the Spanish capital club remains too brief to be fairly measured against Barcelona's established setup.

Mourinho contended that meaningful assessments of his work at Real Madrid should account for the timeline differences between the two La Liga powerhouses. The Portuguese tactician noted that he has only recently taken the reins at the Bernabéu, whereas his Barcelona counterpart Hansi Flick joined the Catalan club in 2024 with an already-established framework in place.
The Real Madrid boss suggested that institutional differences and squad familiarity play significant roles in measuring managerial success. He indicated that comparing two coaches at vastly different stages of their tenures at their respective clubs would not provide an accurate reflection of their respective achievements or tactical implementations.
Mourinho's remarks come amid ongoing scrutiny of both clubs' performances in the current season. The statement underscores the manager's desire to focus on his own project at Real Madrid rather than engaging in direct rivalries with Barcelona in the media sphere.
