Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) has announced a compensation package of ₹1.2 crore for the family of a contract employee who died in a workplace accident at its facility. The announcement comes as authorities probe the circumstances that led to the fatality.
A two-member committee from the Department of Factories and Boilers, comprising the Joint Director and Deputy Director, visited the accident site on October 1 to conduct a statutory investigation. The committee's inspection forms part of the mandatory inquiry process following industrial accidents involving loss of life.
The incident has renewed focus on workplace safety protocols at the refinery. MRPL's compensation decision underscores the company's acknowledgment of the tragedy and its commitment to supporting the affected family during this difficult period.
The statutory investigation will determine the precise cause of the accident and any lapses in safety procedures that may have contributed to the fatality. Findings from the inquiry are expected to inform recommendations for enhanced safety measures at the facility.
