BACOLOD CITY — Mt. Kanlaon showed no signs of subsiding Monday as it continued discharging ash into the atmosphere, three days after a moderately explosive eruption Saturday sent authorities scrambling to monitor the volcano's behavior.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) documented three separate ash emission events on Monday, October 12, according to a science research analyst with the agency. Despite the persistent volcanic activity, no ashfall reached populated areas or communities surrounding the volcano.
Local government officials across Negros Occidental remained on alert, prepared to implement response measures should volcanic activity intensify or ashfall affect lowland communities. The sustained emissions underscore the volcano's ongoing unrest following the weekend eruption that prompted heightened monitoring across the region.
Phivolcs continues to track seismic activity and gas emissions from the volcano. Authorities have advised residents in nearby communities to remain vigilant and prepared for potential changes in volcanic conditions.
