Mt. Kanlaon released ash plumes Sunday morning in Bacolod City and surrounding areas of Negros Occidental, marking the second day of significant volcanic activity at the peak.

The eruption on Saturday was moderately explosive in nature, propelling an ash column approximately 6 kilometers above the volcano's summit, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The agency reported that light ashfall and a pronounced sulfur smell affected several communities in the province.

The continued emissions Sunday indicate sustained unrest at the volcano. Residents in nearby areas have been advised to monitor official updates from Phivolcs regarding volcanic hazards and air quality concerns related to the ashfall and volcanic gases.

Mt. Kanlaon, located on the island of Negros, remains under close observation by volcanologists tracking its eruptive patterns and potential impact on surrounding settlements and infrastructure.
