Mt. Kanlaon produced a moderately explosive eruption on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 10, releasing a substantial ash column above its summit on Negros Island. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported that the eruption commenced shortly before 12:30 p.m. and concluded at 12:48 p.m.

The ash plume, visible from surrounding areas, marked a significant volcanic event for the active volcano. Phivolcs did not immediately detail the height of the ash column or extent of ashfall in communities near the volcano.

Following the eruption, Phivolcs maintained an elevated alert level for Mt. Kanlaon, indicating continued volcanic unrest. The agency typically issues advisories when volcanic activity shows potential for further eruptions or hazardous conditions.

Mt. Kanlaon, located in Negros Occidental, remains one of the Philippines' most active volcanoes. The volcano sits within a national park that straddles portions of Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental provinces.
