Mudslide claims two lives in Kerala's Kottakkamboor village

Two people have died and another sustained severe injuries in a mudslide that struck Kottakkamboor village in Kerala on Tuesday. The incident claimed the lives of siblings Balakrishnan and Chinnu, both residents of the area, who were engaged in farm work at the time the earth gave way.

The mudslide was triggered by intense rainfall that destabilized the terrain near the garlic cultivation site where the victims were working. Emergency response teams were mobilized to the location following reports of the incident.

Balakrishnan's wife, Mariyamma, was pulled from the debris with critical injuries and has been admitted to a nearby medical facility for treatment. Her condition remains under medical observation.

The incident underscores the vulnerability of farming communities in hilly terrain during monsoon seasons, when heavy precipitation significantly increases the risk of such natural disasters. Authorities have not yet announced whether further precautions will be recommended for the affected farming areas.
