MUIS finds no evidence of major data breach in ransomware attack

The Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura (MUIS) has stated that preliminary investigations into a ransomware attack on its human resources system have uncovered no evidence of significant data loss, according to the council's assessment released this week.
The attack, which targeted the HR system, prompted MUIS to initiate a comprehensive security review and implement enhanced protective measures across its digital infrastructure. Officials have prioritised conducting thorough checks and validation procedures to ensure system integrity before returning the platform to full operational status.
MUIS said it is working to complete the investigation phase and deploy additional safeguards designed to prevent similar incidents. The council has not disclosed specific details regarding when the attack occurred or the precise nature of the ransomware involved.
Once all security assessments have been finalised and new protective protocols are in place, MUIS indicated the HR system will gradually resume normal operations. The council has emphasised its commitment to protecting employee data and maintaining the confidentiality of sensitive information.
