President Anura Kumara Dissanayake officially launched the construction of the medical ward complex at Mullaitivu District General Hospital on Tuesday afternoon, marking a significant step towards expanding healthcare capacity in the Northern Province.
The new facility has been designed to address persistent bed shortages at the district hospital, which serves a large catchment area in the Mullaitivu district. The four-storey structure will substantially increase the hospital's inpatient accommodation, enabling the institution to provide enhanced medical services to the region's population.
The project is being undertaken with financial and technical assistance from the Government of India, reflecting New Delhi's ongoing commitment to supporting healthcare infrastructure development in Sri Lanka. Such regional healthcare projects form part of broader development initiatives aimed at improving medical services across the island nation.
