Multi-agency operation deals major blow to international drug syndicate across Northeast

A large-scale anti-narcotics operation targeting an international drug cartel has yielded significant results across India's Northeast region, according to officials overseeing the multi-agency effort. The coordinated action, spanning Assam, Mizoram and Manipur, has resulted in the identification of hawala transactions totalling approximately ₹100 crore, indicating the substantial financial networks underpinning the illegal narcotics trade in the region.

As part of the enforcement action, authorities have frozen 1,424 bank accounts suspected of facilitating drug-related money laundering and financial crimes. Additionally, properties valued at ₹17.82 crore allegedly linked to the narcotics operation have been attached, further disrupting the cartel's financial infrastructure and operational capacity.

The operation represents a coordinated response by multiple government agencies to combat the proliferation of illegal drug networks in the strategically sensitive Northeast region. Officials view the results as indicative of the scale of narcotics-related activities and financial criminality operating across state borders in the area.

The action underscores growing concerns about international drug trafficking routes passing through Northeast India, which remains a focal point for enforcement authorities combating the narcotics trade. The financial seizures and account freezes signal intensified efforts to dismantle the money laundering infrastructure supporting transnational narcotics operations in the region.
