Passengers flying from Mumbai will experience significant operational changes beginning late October 2026 when the city's primary airport undergoes major infrastructure reconstruction. Terminal-1 (T1), the existing facility at Bombay High School Airport, will shut down on October 25, 2026, to make way for a modern replacement structure.
The closure will necessitate a temporary redistribution of flight operations across the airport's existing facilities. Domestic and international carriers will shift their operations to Terminal-2 at the main airport site, while some services may also be diverted to Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), currently under development in the Extended Metropolitan Region.
The redevelopment initiative aims to replace aging infrastructure with contemporary facilities designed to enhance passenger capacity and operational efficiency. Airport authorities project the new Terminal-1 structure will be ready for commissioning between 2029 and 2030, subject to construction timelines and regulatory approvals.
Passengers are advised to plan accordingly for the transition period, monitoring official airport communications for updates regarding flight allocations and terminal assignments during the redevelopment phase.
