Mumbai civic body demolishes unauthorised sections of Juhu property

Mumbai civic body demolishes unauthorised sections of Juhu property

Civic demolition teams equipped with hammers tore down unauthorised 'siporex' block walls at a property in JVPD Scheme on October 12, officials confirmed on Saturday. The action followed the K/West Ward office's rejection of the owners' response to a stop-work notice issued under Section 354A of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation shared photographs documenting the demolition at Kapole Co-operative Housing Society on N S Road, along with copies of notices issued to the property owners. The civic body's action came days after initially directing a halt to unauthorised construction activities on the site.

An office representative associated with the property stated that the structure in question functions as a leased residential unit rather than serving as the owner's primary residence. The statement emphasised that all applicable municipal rules, regulations and guidelines have been adhered to throughout the construction process.

The BMC's enforcement notice and related documentation did not publicly identify the property owner by name, citing standard municipal procedures. The demolition represents the civic authority's continued crackdown on unauthorised construction activities across the city's residential zones.
