Mumbai civic body warns residents to boil water for week
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has advised residents across parts of Mumbai, Thane and Bhiwandi to boil and filter drinking water for seven days due to potential water quality issues following maintenance work at a key supply facility.

The BMC issued the precautionary directive after recommissioning a repaired reservoir at the Pise-Panjrapur water supply complex, which serves multiple areas across the Mumbai metropolitan region. The advisory follows standard protocols observed when major water infrastructure undergoes repairs and is returned to service, as initial water quality parameters may be affected during the transition period.
Residents have been instructed to boil drinking water and pass it through cloth filters as a safeguard against potential contamination. The measure is expected to remain in effect for approximately one week, after which water quality is anticipated to normalise.
The affected areas span residential and commercial zones across Mumbai, as well as portions of neighbouring Thane and Bhiwandi municipalities. The BMC has advised citizens to store sufficient drinking water and follow the boiling and filtering guidelines strictly until the advisory is lifted.
The corporation is conducting regular water quality monitoring at key supply points to ensure standards return to acceptable levels. Residents experiencing water-related health issues during this period have been advised to seek medical attention and report concerns to local civic authorities.
