Sahil Thite was awaiting his train on platform number 4 at Bhandup station when railway officials announced an unexpected change of platform. The sudden notification created confusion among commuters, many of whom rushed to relocate to the new platform.
In the ensuing chaos, Thite made his way across the railway tracks. While traversing the tracks, he was struck by an approaching local train. Emergency services responded to the incident, and he was transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment.
The incident has renewed concerns about safety protocols at Mumbai's busy suburban stations, where millions of commuters travel daily. Platform change announcements, while sometimes necessary due to operational requirements, can create hazardous conditions when not managed carefully.
Railway authorities have not yet released an official statement regarding the circumstances that led to the platform change or safety measures being implemented to prevent similar incidents. The Mumbai suburban rail system remains one of the world's busiest, carrying approximately 7.5 million passengers daily across its Central, Western, and Harbour lines.
