Mumbai Food Authority Suspends Licences After Hygiene Violations Found

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) suspended food licences for several restaurants, hotels and dhabas in Mumbai after inspectors discovered serious hygiene lapses including cockroach infestations and unsafe food storage practices.

The enforcement action comes following a statewide inspection drive conducted on August 18, during which FDA officials visited 31 food establishments across the region. The crackdown uncovered significant violations of food safety standards at multiple venues.

Five establishments had their food licences suspended as a result of the inspection, while 22 other eateries were issued improvement notices requiring them to rectify identified deficiencies within a specified timeframe. The violations documented by inspectors ranged from inadequate pest control measures to improper storage of food items that posed potential health risks to consumers.

The FDA's action reflects heightened scrutiny of food safety standards in the hospitality sector, particularly in the National Capital Region. Authorities have signalled their commitment to ensuring that eating establishments comply with mandatory hygiene protocols and food handling procedures to protect public health.
