Mumbai Indians name Luke Williams as women's coach, replace Keightley

Mumbai Indians announced Thursday that Lisa Keightley has stepped down from her role as head coach, with Williams taking over the position for the upcoming WPL campaign. Keightley, a former Australian batter who joined the franchise in September 2025, has decided to move on from the role.

Under Keightley's tenure, Mumbai Indians experienced their poorest showing since entering the tournament, finishing fourth in the five-team competition. The slip in form marked a significant decline for the franchise, which had previously dominated the WPL landscape.

Mumbai Indians captured the WPL title in both 2023 and 2025, establishing themselves as one of the tournament's premier franchises. The team reached the Eliminator stage in 2024 before their fourth-place finish last season prompted the coaching change.

Williams expressed optimism about his new role, stating: "We have a great opportunity to build something together, play an exciting brand of cricket and compete for success." His appointment signals the franchise's intent to return to championship contention in 2027.
