A fire at Kanjurmarg station's signalling relay room brought Mumbai's Central Railway Harbour Line to a standstill on Monday morning, affecting thousands of commuters during peak hours. The incident occurred around 9:33 am when flames erupted in the critical infrastructure facility, causing all signals between Vikhroli and Bhandup to fail simultaneously. Railway authorities said the complete signal blackout necessitated complete suspension of services in the affected section to ensure passenger safety. Emergency response teams were mobilized to extinguish the fire and assess damage to signalling equipment. After nearly 10 hours of operations, railway services were gradually restored as engineers worked to repair and reactivate the damaged signalling systems. The incident once again highlighted vulnerabilities in the ageing signalling infrastructure on the Harbour Line, one of Mumbai's busiest commuter corridors. Railway officials said an investigation has been initiated to determine the exact cause of the fire and implement preventive measures.
