Mumbai on high alert after threat email targets mayor's office, celebrity venues

Security forces in Mumbai have been mobilised following a threat email addressed to Mayor Ritu Tawde and Deputy Mayor Sanjay Ghadi on Friday. The message warned of potential bomb blasts at the mayor's office at Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) headquarters, actor Amitabh Bachchan's Juhu residence 'Jalsa', and the venue of singer Diljit Dosanjh's upcoming concert.

According to police, the email contained specific threat timelines, warning of a grenade attack on a school on October 31 and threatening attacks on Bachchan's home between October 31 and November 27. The message also claimed an attack would occur during Dosanjh's November 27 concert scheduled at the Mahalaxmi Racecourse area. The email made references to 'Khalistan', prompting authorities to treat the threat seriously.

Following the email's receipt, authorities conducted a thorough search of the mayor's office but found nothing suspicious. Law enforcement agencies have launched a detailed investigation to authenticate the message, trace its origin, and identify the sender. Security protocols at identified locations have been strengthened as a precautionary measure while the investigation continues.
