The Mumbai Police Cybercrime cell has arrested two individuals allegedly operating a sophisticated 'Boss' scam racket that defrauded victims of ₹48.60 lakh. The suspects, hailing from Bihar and Jharkhand respectively, were apprehended following an investigation into complaints received by the police regarding the fraudulent scheme.
During interrogation, investigators uncovered evidence linking the arrested men to approximately seven comparable cases registered across multiple states in India. The 'Boss' scam typically involves fraudsters posing as senior officials or authority figures to coerce victims into transferring money under false pretexts.
The cybercrime unit seized digital devices and financial records during the arrests, which are expected to provide further insights into the operation's scale and network. Authorities are continuing their probe to identify additional conspirators and trace proceeds of the crime.
The arrests mark another significant action by Mumbai police against organized cyber fraud networks that have increasingly targeted individuals across India in recent months. Investigators are coordinating with law enforcement agencies in other states to build a comprehensive case against the racket.
