Mumbai Police mobilize 16,800 officers for Ganeshotsav festival

The Mumbai Police have announced a comprehensive security deployment of more than 16,800 personnel to oversee arrangements during the forthcoming Ganeshotsav festival, one of Maharashtra's most significant religious observances. The multi-departmental force will be stationed across the city to address crowd management, traffic regulation and maintenance of public order throughout the festive period.

The deployment strategy accounts for the festival's scale, with large public gatherings, processions and celebrations expected across Mumbai's residential and commercial areas. Police officials have indicated that personnel will be strategically positioned at key locations, pandals and thoroughfares to ensure smooth passage of devotees and vehicles.

Special emphasis has been placed on immersion day operations, when massive crowds traditionally congregate at beaches and water bodies to perform the ceremonial immersion of Ganesh idols. The police force will significantly augment its presence during these critical periods to manage the expected surge in pedestrian and vehicular traffic while preventing any potential law-and-order disturbances.

The department has reportedly coordinated with various civic agencies and traffic management teams to implement a cohesive plan for the festival duration. Officers will work in staggered shifts to maintain sustained vigilance, with particular focus on emerging crowd control challenges and traffic congestion at traditionally congested routes.
