Mumbai Police order US actor Imran Khan to quit India by Oct 28

Mumbai Police have served a notice on American actor Imran Khan directing him to depart India by October 28, citing violations of the Foreigners Act, officials confirmed Thursday.

The action follows Khan's participation in a public demonstration on October 10 in Mumbai where protesters called for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Police briefly detained Khan during the agitation.

"Foreign nationals are prohibited from engaging in political protests or political activities within Indian territory under the Foreigners Act," a police official stated. "Imran Khan holds US citizenship and is therefore bound by these provisions."

The formal notice has been served to Khan, who has received a copy of the directive. Police said administrative procedures are ongoing regarding the matter. The 30-day window provides Khan time to arrange his departure from the country.

Khan has acted in multiple Hindi films since his entry into Bollywood. His participation in the political demonstration marked a rare public political engagement by the actor, triggering the police action under immigration statutes that restrict foreign nationals' involvement in domestic political activities.
