Mumbai property registrations plunge 25% during Navratri festival period

Property registrations in Mumbai fell sharply to 4,680 during the Navratri period in 2026, marking a 25 per cent decline compared to 6,238 registrations recorded during the same festival season last year, according to data from real estate consultancy Knight Frank.

The downturn represents the first dip in registrations during Navratri in three years, signalling a notable shift in buyer behaviour during the auspicious period. The slowdown extended beyond transaction volumes, with registration revenue contracting 15 per cent to ₹499 crore from the previous year's figures.

The decline during Navratri, traditionally considered an auspicious time for major purchases in Indian culture, suggests evolving market dynamics and potential buyer caution in Mumbai's property sector. The festival season typically witnesses heightened activity as purchasers view the period favourably for completing property transactions.

Market analysts attribute such seasonal fluctuations to multiple factors, including macroeconomic conditions, interest rate movements, and shifting consumer sentiment. The data provides insights into real estate market trends as India's property sector navigates broader economic pressures and cyclical demand patterns.
