Investigators in Mumbai have registered a case against a woman accused of conspiring with household help to murder her daughter-in-law, according to law enforcement officials. The accused allegedly offered Rs 3 lakh to the domestic worker in exchange for carrying out the killing, police said.

Following the death, the accused fabricated a false narrative claiming her daughter-in-law had been intoxicated and sustained fatal injuries from an accidental fall in the bathroom. The story was designed to mislead authorities and deflect suspicion from the actual circumstances of the death.

The case emerged following preliminary investigations that contradicted the initially reported account. Police began probing deeper into the circumstances after inconsistencies surfaced in the explanation provided by family members present at the time.

The accused and the domestic worker are now in police custody as investigations continue. Authorities are examining the relationship dynamics between the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law, including reports of previous conflicts that may have motivated the alleged crime. Further details are expected as the inquiry progresses.
