Musetti stuns top-ranked Zverev in Paris Masters upset

Musetti's commanding performance at the Paris-Bercy indoor hard court event marked a significant setback for Zverev, whose ascent to the world number one ranking had just begun. The German, seeded first in the tournament, struggled to maintain momentum against the Italian's aggressive baseline play and efficient serving.

The opening set proved the most competitive, with Musetti edging out Zverev in a tightly-contested tiebreak 7-5 to claim the crucial first set. Having seized the initiative, the Italian capitalised on his advantage by dominating the second set, which he won comfortably 6-2 to secure his passage into the round of 16.

The result underscores the unpredictable nature of professional tennis, where even top-seeded players face formidable challenges from rising competitors. Musetti's victory adds to his growing reputation as a dangerous opponent on hard courts and marks a potential turning point in his campaign at one of Europe's most prestigious tournaments.

Zverev will look to regroup and focus on his remaining tournaments as he seeks to consolidate his new ranking status. For Musetti, the win offers momentum and confidence heading into the later stages of the Paris Masters.
