Musician Moby triples investment with Hollywood estate restoration sale
Electronic music pioneer Moby has demonstrated a keen eye for real estate, purchasing a historic Hollywood Hills mansion in 2010 and reselling it four years later for more than triple his initial investment.

Moby acquired Wolf's Lair, a castle-style estate nestled in the Hollywood Hills, for $3.925 million in 2010. The property, originally constructed in 1927, sits across 3.3 acres and stands as an architectural fixture of Hollywood's golden era.
Following his purchase, the musician embarked on an extensive restoration programme, carefully preserving the estate's original character and period features while modernising its systems and amenities. The renovation project maintained the integrity of the decades-old structure while bringing it to contemporary standards.
In 2014, Moby listed the restored property on the market, ultimately securing a sale price of $12.4 million. The transaction represented a profit of approximately $8.475 million over his four-year tenure as owner—a return exceeding 200 per cent on his initial investment.
The sale underscores the considerable financial gains achievable through thoughtful restoration of heritage properties in premium locations. Wolf's Lair's transformation from Moby's acquisition to its sale exemplifies how strategic property investment, combined with careful preservation and renovation, can yield substantial returns in Hollywood's competitive real estate market.
