Muslims across Bangladesh celebrate Prophet Muhammad's birthday today

Devotees gathered at mosques and prayer grounds throughout Bangladesh on Thursday to commemorate Eid-e-Miladunnabi, one of the most important religious observances in the Islamic calendar. The celebration honours the birth of Prophet Muhammad, the founder of Islam, and is marked by special prayers, recitations from the Quran, and devotional activities.

Major cities including Dhaka, Chittagong, and Sylhet witnessed increased footfall at mosques and religious centres, with families attending dawn and midday prayers. Many community organisations organised special mehfils, traditional religious gatherings where Islamic scholars delivered sermons highlighting the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad.

Public institutions remained closed on Thursday in observance of the religious occasion, allowing citizens to participate in prayers and community celebrations. Decorative green and white flags, symbolic of Islam, adorned mosques and public spaces across the country.

The celebration reinforces Islamic values and cultural traditions among Bangladesh's Muslim population, who constitute over 90 percent of the nation's 170 million people. The festive atmosphere is expected to continue through the day as communities gather for shared meals and religious discourse.
