Muthoot Finance Q2 profit surges 36% on strong gold loan demand

Gold loan financing company Muthoot Finance posted strong financial performance in the September quarter, with earnings growth substantially outpacing broader market trends. The 36 per cent expansion in consolidated profit reflects robust demand for gold-backed loans across its retail customer base, the company's primary revenue driver.

Loan assets under management, a key metric of business growth, expanded sharply to ₹2.09 trillion, representing a 42 per cent year-on-year increase. This expansion signals accelerating customer acquisition and higher average loan ticket sizes across Muthoot Finance's branch network, which spans multiple states across South and Southeast India.

The company's performance comes against a backdrop of sustained gold prices and continued consumer preference for gold loans as an alternative to traditional bank credit. The jewellery-backed lending segment has emerged as a significant growth avenue for non-bank financial companies, offering quick disbursals and flexible repayment terms that appeal to retail borrowers.

Muthoot Finance's results underscore the resilience of the gold loan market in India, where the combination of cultural affinity for gold ownership and rising credit demand continues to drive industry expansion. The company's quarterly growth metrics suggest market share gains and improved operational efficiency in its lending operations.
