Myanmar's military-backed parliament held by-elections in areas previously unable to vote due to civil conflict. The supplementary polls represent attempts to expand legislative representation across the country.

Myanmar's pro-military parliament announced the completion of by-elections aimed at expanding its membership and extending representation to constituencies that had been unable to participate in the electoral process. The voting took place in regions where the armed conflict that has gripped the nation since 2021 had previously prevented electoral activities from proceeding.
The supplementary polls were conducted in districts where security concerns and active fighting had made it impossible for the military-aligned government to organise standard elections. Officials characterised the by-elections as a step toward normalising parliamentary procedures across Myanmar's fractured political landscape.
Since the military coup in February 2021, Myanmar has been embroiled in widespread civil unrest, with armed resistance movements and ethnic militias challenging military rule across various regions. The conflict has displaced hundreds of thousands and created significant humanitarian challenges.
The electoral exercise underscores the military council's efforts to maintain the appearance of institutional governance despite the ongoing instability. However, international observers have raised concerns about the legitimacy and inclusivity of electoral processes conducted under military administration.
