Myanmar opposition groups have expressed concern over the United States lifting sanctions against another individual with close connections to the country's military junta, marking the fifth such removal of restrictions on regime-linked figures.

The Justice For Myanmar coalition and allied pro-democracy organizations voiced disappointment at the delisting, arguing that such measures undermine international pressure on those responsible for Myanmar's political crisis and alleged human rights violations. The groups contend that targeted sanctions remain a critical diplomatic tool for holding regime officials and their associates accountable.

The sanctions relief comes amid ongoing international scrutiny of Myanmar's military leadership following the February 2021 coup that toppled the democratically elected government. Western nations have maintained various targeted restrictions against junta officials and entities supporting military rule.

Opposition advocates have repeatedly called on the international community to maintain a unified stance on sanctions, warning that selective relief may weaken their effectiveness as leverage for political change. They emphasize that delisting individuals connected to the regime sends mixed signals regarding the international community's commitment to restoring democratic governance in Myanmar.

The US State Department has not yet provided detailed public justification for the latest delisting decision.
