KUALA LUMPUR — The Ministry of Transport has moved to reassure the public that sensitive data from the MyJPJ digital platform has not been shared with Nile Tech Sdn Bhd, the technology partner involved in the road tax collection system.
The ministry's statement comes amid scrutiny over data protection practices and the extent of third-party access to Malaysia's vehicle and driver information systems. MyJPJ serves as a centralised digital platform for vehicle registration and related services managed by the Road Transport Department.
Nile Tech's involvement in the MyJPJ ecosystem has been limited to specific operational functions, but the company has not been provided direct access to the underlying database containing sensitive personal and vehicle information, according to the ministry's clarification.
The assurance underscores Malaysia's commitment to protecting citizen data while managing partnerships with private technology providers. The government has faced increasing pressure to strengthen data governance frameworks as digital services expand across public agencies.
The ministry did not provide additional details regarding the scope of Nile Tech's current responsibilities or future arrangements in a statement released Wednesday.
