MyKad printing services to halt for six days in August

The National Registration Department (JPN) has announced a temporary suspension of MyKad printing services spanning six days next month, urging the public to postpone routine applications where possible.

According to the advisory, citizens without pressing identification needs should defer their MyKad transactions until after August 31, when normal operations resume. The maintenance window is scheduled to facilitate system upgrades and improvements to the national identity card issuance process.

JPN recommended that applications involving urgent circumstances—such as emergency travel or time-sensitive legal matters—be expedited before the maintenance period begins. The department did not specify whether existing appointments booked during the shutdown would be automatically rescheduled.

The announcement comes as Malaysia continues to modernize its civil registration infrastructure. Residents seeking clarity on whether their specific MyKad needs qualify as urgent have been encouraged to contact their nearest JPN office directly for guidance.
