Mystery man in ascetic disguise accused of theft at Jhansi jewellery store

Police in Jhansi are investigating an unusual theft at a jewellery store in Mauranipur where a man disguised as an ascetic allegedly stole approximately 10 grams of gold and 17,000 rupees. According to the shop owner, the unidentified visitor engaged him in conversation for several minutes before departing. The theft was discovered only after the man had left the premises.

The jewellery merchant has attributed the loss to hypnosis or some form of mental manipulation, claiming he was distracted during his interaction with the visitor. However, authorities have not confirmed whether the alleged hypnosis played a role in the incident or if it was a straightforward case of distraction theft.

The disguise of a religious ascetic—a figure traditionally associated with spiritual practice and renunciation—raises questions about whether the appearance was deliberate misdirection. Investigators are now examining CCTV footage from the shop and surrounding areas to identify the suspect and establish the exact circumstances of the theft.
