Mysuru Dasara elephants begin ceremonial journey from Karnataka

A ceremonial send-off marked the departure of nine specially adorned elephants from Veeranahosahalli as they began their journey towards Mysuru for the annual Dasara celebrations. The elephants, selected for their participation in the festival's grand processions, were accorded traditional welcomes befitting the significance of the occasion.
The Gajapayana—literally the 'elephant journey'—represents a key preparatory phase for Karnataka's renowned Dasara festival, which draws visitors from across India and abroad. The elephants, bedecked in ornamental caparisons and traditional decorations, will traverse the route to Mysuru where they will feature prominently in the festival's iconic processions.
Among the departing elephants was Abhimanyu, a notable tusker who received special ceremonial recognition during the flagoff event. The occasion underscored the cultural importance attached to these majestic animals in Karnataka's festival calendar, with local officials and dignitaries present to witness the formal commencement.
The elephants will cover the journey over several days, allowing them to rest at designated locations along the established route. Their arrival in Mysuru is anticipated to generate considerable excitement as preparations for the Dasara festival intensify in the region.
