Mysuru district has launched a comprehensive job card awareness campaign spanning all 255 gram panchayats to reinforce the implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). The initiative aims to strengthen rural employment schemes and ensure maximum beneficiary participation across villages.
The campaign, rolled out as a district-wide mela, seeks to streamline the job card registration process and increase awareness among eligible rural residents about their entitlements under the scheme. Officials have been deployed across gram panchayats to facilitate registrations, verify applications, and address queries from prospective beneficiaries.
MNREGA, a flagship rural employment program, guarantees 100 days of wage employment annually to rural households. The job card serves as the primary document for workers seeking employment under the scheme. By conducting village-level melAs, district authorities aim to reach remote populations and reduce administrative barriers to registration.
The campaign also focuses on ensuring proper documentation and maintenance of records at the panchayat level. Officials emphasized that streamlined job card processes would enable better tracking of employment generated and improve wage payment mechanisms for workers.
The initiative comes as part of broader efforts to strengthen rural livelihood support systems across South India and enhance the effectiveness of social security schemes at the grassroots level.
