A top official of the North Eastern Council has underscored the importance of strengthening infrastructure and establishing robust market connections to enhance the commercial viability of coffee farming in Nagaland.

Satinder Kumar Bhalla, Secretary of the North Eastern Council (NEC), has stressed that improving infrastructure and market linkages are critical to making coffee cultivation economically sustainable in Nagaland. During a visit to Touphema village, Bhalla highlighted the structural challenges that currently limit the profitability of the region's coffee sector.
The official's observations come as Nagaland looks to develop its agricultural potential and diversify income sources for farming communities. Coffee cultivation has emerged as a promising agricultural venture for the northeastern state, but realizing its full commercial potential requires addressing existing gaps in connectivity and market access.
Bhalla's remarks underscore the NEC's focus on supporting value-added agricultural initiatives across the Northeast. Beyond basic cultivation, industry stakeholders have identified the need for processing facilities and direct market linkages to help farmers capture greater value from their coffee production.
The visit to Touphema village was part of a broader assessment of agricultural development prospects in Nagaland. The NEC is expected to consider recommendations for supporting infrastructure development and market connectivity initiatives that could transform coffee farming into a viable commercial enterprise for the state's farmers.
