Nagpur temple offers colossal 1,101-kg sweet to Lord Ganesha

The Ganesha Tekdi temple in Nagpur hosted a unique offering on Tuesday as artisans presented Lord Ganesha with a monumental modak weighing 1,101 kilograms, making it a standout among traditional Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations in the region.

The massive sweet was prepared over six days by a team of 22 skilled craftspeople who meticulously assembled the confectionery using carefully measured ingredients. The preparation required 320 kilograms of gram flour, 260 kilograms of sugar, 320 kilograms of clarified butter, and 61 kilograms of assorted dry fruits, according to the temple administration.

The monumental modak represents the devotion and effort invested by local artisans to honour the elephant-headed deity during the Hindu festival that celebrates the arrival of Lord Ganesha. The offering was made just prior to the ceremonial immersion of Ganesha idols, a significant ritual marking the conclusion of the 10-day festival.

The creation of such grand prasad, or blessed offering, has become an increasingly popular tradition at major temples across Maharashtra, drawing crowds of devotees who seek blessings and witness the remarkable culinary craftsmanship on display.
