Najib Granted Conditional Pardon to Serve Prison Term Under House Arrest

Najib Razak's sentence has been modified following the issuance of a conditional pardon, according to the Prison Department, which has now provided standard operating procedures for home detention in his case. Under the terms of the pardon, the former prime minister will serve his remaining jail time under house arrest rather than in prison custody.

The conditional pardon requires Najib to pay a RM50 million fine as a prerequisite for the home detention arrangement. The house arrest period is set to extend until August 23, 2028, when his sentence is scheduled to be fully served.

Najib was originally convicted in the SRC International money laundering case, which involved allegations of misappropriation of funds from the state-owned strategic development company. The conditional pardon represents a significant modification to his original custodial sentence.

The Prison Department's issuance of standard operating procedures for Najib's home detention indicates that the administrative framework for his modified sentence has been formally established, allowing the arrangement to proceed under specified conditions and oversight.
