KOTA BHARU — Datuk Seri Najib Razak has not yet paid the outstanding RM50 million fine required to qualify for house arrest as an alternative to prison, according to a statement from the Attorney General's office.
The fine forms part of the conditions that would enable the former prime minister to serve his sentence outside of a correctional institution. Officials have indicated that payment of the full amount remains outstanding.
Najib was convicted in 2023 on charges related to the SRC International affair and sentenced to 12 years imprisonment, along with the RM50 million penalty. The fine and house arrest option have been central to discussions regarding the execution of his sentence.
The status of the outstanding payment comes as Najib's legal team continues to pursue various avenues through the court system. The Attorney General's confirmation suggests that unless the fine is settled, the alternative arrangement to house arrest may not proceed.
