Najib's family yet to settle RM50m fine, house arrest delayed
Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak remains unable to serve his house arrest sentence as his family has not paid the mandatory RM50 million fine ordered by the courts, the Attorney General's office confirmed.

KAJANG — The implementation of Najib's house arrest sentence continues to be on hold pending settlement of the substantial financial penalty, according to a statement from the Attorney General's chambers here on Friday.
The RM50 million fine forms part of the conditions set by the court for Najib's sentence, and must be satisfied before the former prime minister can commence his home confinement period. The delay in payment has prevented the commencement of this phase of his sentence.
The status update comes as Najib's legal team navigates the requirements set out in his conviction. The family has not disclosed any timeline for payment of the outstanding fine.
Najib was convicted in 2023 on charges related to the misappropriation of funds, and his sentence included both custodial time and the substantial financial penalty. The house arrest provision was intended to follow completion of his prison term, contingent upon full payment of the fine.
