Muda has raised alarm over plans to move former Prime Minister Najib Razak from prison to a bungalow, cautioning that such preferential treatment could erode public trust in Malaysia's legal and democratic systems.
Party president Zarul contended that the relocation represents unequal application of the law, potentially signalling that privileged individuals receive different treatment than ordinary citizens. Such disparities, he argued, risk widening the credibility gap between the public and national institutions.
The concern reflects broader anxieties about judicial consistency and equal protection under law in Malaysia. Zarul warned that perceived injustice could fuel disengagement from democratic processes, particularly among younger voters already sceptical of political establishments.
Najib is serving a 12-year sentence for his conviction in connection with the 1Malaysia Development Berhad scandal. The proposed transfer to a bungalow arrangement, if implemented, would represent a significant modification to his custodial conditions.
Muda's statement underscores the scrutiny surrounding high-profile convictions and imprisonment arrangements in Malaysia, where questions of fairness and equal treatment remain sensitive political issues.
