Nalco partners with UAE aluminium giant EGA for Odisha smelter expansion
The state-owned aluminium producer has signed a technology licensing agreement with Emirates Global Aluminium to deploy advanced smelting technology for a planned 500,000-tonne capacity addition at its Odisha facility.

Nalco has entered into a strategic technology partnership with Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), one of the world's largest primary aluminium producers, to support its brownfield expansion plans in Odisha. Under the technology licensing agreement, Nalco will gain access to EGA's DX+ Ultra smelting technology, a cutting-edge process designed to enhance operational efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
The proposed expansion will add 500,000 tonnes per annum (0.5 mtpa) of smelting capacity to Nalco's existing facilities in the eastern state. The deployment of EGA's advanced technology is expected to enable the company to optimise production while maintaining competitive cost structures in an increasingly demanding global aluminium market.
Nalco, a Maharatna company under the Ministry of Mines, has been pursuing capacity augmentation plans to strengthen India's domestic aluminium production capabilities. The partnership with EGA underscores the company's commitment to adopting world-class technologies and global best practices in its operations.
The DX+ Ultra technology is recognised for its superior environmental and operational performance metrics. The collaboration with EGA positions Nalco to leverage international expertise while pursuing its growth objectives in India's non-ferrous metals sector.
