Nan Province begins recovery as floodwaters recede southward

Recovery and rehabilitation work has begun across upper and central areas of Nan province as floodwaters from the overflowing Nan River continue their southward movement, according to provincial governor Chainarong Wongyai.

The governor's statement on Thursday indicated that affected communities are shifting focus toward restoration and rebuilding efforts as water levels recede in their areas. The movement of floodwaters downstream means residents in these districts can now assess damage and begin repair work on infrastructure, homes, and agricultural land.

The Nan River's overflow has impacted multiple communities across the northern province, with the southward progression of waters expected to affect lower-lying areas in due course. Authorities have not yet released detailed casualty figures or comprehensive damage assessments from the flooding event.

Provinces in the northern region have been grappling with seasonal flooding, and Nan's experience underscores the ongoing challenges posed by overflow of major waterways during monsoon periods. Officials will likely focus on both immediate relief and longer-term mitigation strategies in coming weeks.
