Napolcom warns criminology interns traffic violations could derail police careers

MANILA — The National Police Commission (Napolcom) has issued a stark warning to criminology interns, cautioning that traffic violations could permanently damage their prospects of becoming police officers.

Napolcom Commissioner Rafael Vicente Calinisan stated that interns caught breaking traffic rules, including riding motorcycles without safety helmets, risk being barred from police recruitment. The commission will document the names of violators and reject their applications for the Philippine National Police.

"We will get their names, identify them, and we will not process their application as policemen," Calinisan was quoted as saying. The warning underscores the commission's commitment to maintaining high standards of conduct among prospective officers, even before they formally enter the force.

The alert comes as Napolcom continues efforts to strengthen discipline and professionalism within police ranks. Criminology interns are expected to demonstrate exemplary behavior and adherence to traffic laws as part of their preparation for law enforcement careers.

Interns and aspiring police officers are urged to comply strictly with all traffic regulations to preserve their eligibility for recruitment and avoid jeopardizing their future in law enforcement.
