Natco Pharma announced on Tuesday that it is investing $14 million (approximately Rs 130 crore) in eGenesis Inc through two of its subsidiary entities. The Hyderabad-headquartered company said Natco Pharma (Canada) Inc will contribute $9.5 million while Natco Pharma South Africa Proprietary Ltd will invest $4.5 million through convertible promissory notes.
eGenesis specializes in genome engineering technology aimed at developing transplantable organs to address the global shortage of donor organs and revolutionize treatment options for organ failure patients. The company's proprietary platform addresses critical molecular incompatibilities and viral transmission risks associated with cross-species organ transplantation.
This investment represents a significant expansion of Natco Pharma's commitment to the biotech firm. The company had previously invested $8 million in eGenesis during 2024 through preferred stock purchases. With the latest infusion of capital, Natco Pharma's cumulative investment in eGenesis now stands at $22 million.
The strategic investment underscores Natco Pharma's growing interest in advancing biotechnology solutions beyond its traditional pharmaceutical operations, positioning itself in emerging areas of regenerative medicine and organ transplantation.
